INSTITUTE REPRESENTATIVES AT THE EUROPEAN WEEK OF REGIONS AND CITIES 2026 IN BRUSSELS

The Public Scientific Research Institution Institute for Protection and Ecology of Republika Srpska participated in the European Week of Regions and Cities 2026, held in Brussels from 12 to 14 October. The Institute was represented by Prof. Dr. Predrag Ilić and Dr. Srđan Šabić, who took part in expert exchanges and discussions with European partners, highlighting the Institute’s research expertise and international project activities.
A central part of the programme was the workshop “Wildfires in the Mediterranean Regions: Lessons from an Interreg Partnership”, held on 14 October as part of the RES2FIRE project under the Interreg IPA ADRION programme. Discussions focused on the use of digital tools and data for wildfire risk assessment, fire risks at the wildland–urban interface, the importance of education and community involvement, and the contribution of sustainable forest management and preventive measures.

As a RES2FIRE project partner, the Institute used this opportunity to present its involvement in activities aimed at strengthening resilience in protected natural areas and at the interface between settlements and natural landscapes. Exchanges with researchers, institutional representatives and regional partners also provided an opportunity to discuss how scientific evidence can inform practical risk management decisions.

The participation of the Institute representatives at a major European forum contributes to the Institute’s international visibility and supports its longer-term ambition to expand project cooperation and bring relevant knowledge and experience to Republika Srpska.
